  • Vṛkṣāsana, tree pose (वृक्षासन)

The mythology behind the pose :

The demon king Ravana kidnapped queen Sita and brough her to Lanka. He offered her everything she could need in his palace, and naturally assumed that she would fall for him.

But Sita sat, with her back against an ashoka tree, and she breathed slowly, and she waited. She concentrated her mind on Rama (her one true love) with one-pointed focus. Every thought, every breath, every beat of her heart said “Rama...find me. Rama. Rama.” She sent her love and longing into the trees, and imagined their leaves broadcasting Rama's name to the atmosphere.

Trees are patient creatures. They live a long, quiet time, and they know how to stand firm through all the changes of day and night, climate and season. Silently, those ashoka trees spoke to Sita: “Stay still, little sister. Be calm and steady, like us. Seasons change, we know, we know. This captivity is not forever. Stay still, and remember Rama.”

She was later saved by Hanuman (monkey deity) and brought back to her love, Rama.

  • We come as strangers, we end up as a family.

Opening ceremonies are somehow an emotional moment. Where magical bonds are created.

Different generations are reunited under the same roof, for different purpose. Each of us share our life story, sometimes with tears sometimes with smiles.

Opening up and being vulnerable to people we don't know is a beautiful experience. It can be a hard exercise but if you let it go and surrender to your emotions, you awaken new segments of your soul.

Honored to have shared this with my yogis in the middle of the Moroccan desert.
