This trek in the Himalayas, in the Markha Valley, is accessible to anyone in good physical condition (regular walking, some form of physical activity, and no respiratory issues or asthma). You don’t need to be a mountaineer—just the desire to walk, stay open, and gently challenge yourself.
Here is an overview of our three-day mini trek:
— Day 1: accessible level, 2–3 hours of relaxed walking (3,900 m → 4,100 m altitude). Overnight at the refuge.
— Day 2: moderate to sporty level, 5–6 hours of ascent (4,100 m → 4,900 m altitude). Overnight at the refuge.
— Day 3: accessible level, 3–4 hours of descent (4,900 m → 3,900 m altitude). Return and overnight in Leh.
This is the slightly more physical chapter of the retreat, but also a deeply transformative one. You’ll feel amazed, proud, and uplifted by the power of the landscapes and the beauty of the shared effort.
If you don’t practice sports regularly, I recommend gently getting back into movement about a month before departure: walking, yoga, swimming, or anything that feels good for you, so you arrive with a smile and the right energy.
And most importantly: keep a positive mindset, Ladakh will take care of the rest!
Don’t forget to consult your primary care doctor before departure, especially to discuss high altitude and confirm that you are fit for this type of trip. Purchasing travel insurance is also strongly recommended when you register.
